Correct name=*/brand=* spelling for the following shops in Germany #9664
Comments
I don't see how any of this helps? Making changes like this will kick off like a million warnings in iD, Rapid, and Osmose prompting people to mess around with the capitalization of the The capitalization of |
Also, mismatch such |
Can you explain, why the NSI project seems not to make any difference between the name=* and the brand=* until today? For other shop names you could also try to search for "bei " ("by "), but this works best with an search engines which does not try to guess what people want to be searched for. For e.g. name="Aldi" you would find some German press articles. Maybe it helps to read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand to understand what the use and purpose of a brand is compared to a common name in any language. Why did you think, that people want a brand that is written like a name or a name written like the brand?
There is a reason why brand style guidelines such as this for Slack or from the Wifi-alliance exist.
You or the NSI-project should have done this right before. I really wonder that it looks like I the first one who report this. Other German issue reporters also have reported to change the name=* to the common German name spelling in many cases, which is like I explained it in my posting linked above, even if the brand=* is then spelled like the name=*, but it is not displayed on the map in most cases, so no one really cares. |
Looking on the shops website could lead to different results for the name=* spelling, depending on, if and how much the brand style guide have been applied by the designers. For most shops such as e.g. Rossmann they don't care about readability, for other websites such as Aldi Nord only the international brand style guide for the ALDI-brand is used, where Aldi Süd use the spelling of the brand (ALDI SÜD) for the complete name. Other websites such as for the ARAL brand care more about readability of the name=* in normal text blocks and not applying the brand style guide to the complete website. |

And https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/restructure-wiki-page-key-name/110631/ which seems to at least demonstrate lack of clear support for ideas advanced here (though focus there was on a bit different thing).
If you go for such interpretation of matching logotype - it would be R:centaur_emoji:SSMANN In either case, is there any discussion where people agreed with you that approach for brand and name handling as you propose here should be followed? |
I will read the forum discussion.
Why not just adding name=MCDONALD'S by NSI?
"Show me some community support" seems your standard argument (also in the forum), if you don't want to look at the issue. |
If I am not aware of it happening.
If people agree with you at thread at community forum then it is indicator that community agrees with you (specifics depends on a case, but in general it works)
As can be seen from fact I have commented, I have in fact looked at this issue |
As explained in #9596 (comment) it is not always useful, to spell the shop name like the brand. As the brand style guide of the marketing department should be only used for brand spelling (brand writing should be uniform, to easy be recognized again, even if name=* should be better spelled e.g. "Mc Donalds" (correct German spelling, but this depends on the common natural language usage in the country)), but may not be useful for the common writing of the name of the facility.
